At the moment guys, we are aiming for the 67-68 period and the Jungle suit is fine for that. I am interested in putting a Ia Drang period look together and was wondering if anyone else fancied it too. Moores have a Utility package at www.mooremilitaria.com/packages.htm that is about £70 plus shipping. I guess there are Utilities on ebay but have not looked in earnest yet. I am thinking of asking French Jean if he can do black/white and gold black nametapes but the Moores set comes with them... Anyone up for it?

If I could be Hal Moore or his Top, I'd be interested. Have you any info regarding boots. Dunno if they'd be issued black corcorans. Black leather boots might be hard to find?

Yeah, think you might have a point Mike. Moore and Plumly were Airborne so Corcorans make sense. Thats a costly way to go and they will look too new IMO, maybe old UK boots will do? Found 2 utility shirts this weekend, one is 60s dated, one 70s dated, £8.50 the pair! I would like to approach my mate Tony as Hal Moore, but the SGT MAJ role might be open, you look like Sam Elliot or Plumley himself? ;D

One thing about using the Jungle Suit - make sure it's First Pattern... ;D

The idea is to use the utilities because most of the jungle suits we use are 3rd pattern. According to Robert Mason, the Cav had no Jungle uniforms in '65. Any thoughts about the boots Oggy?

Be careful about the utilities. You need 1st pattern utilities for Ia Drang Valley. These have a square/oblong pocket with no buttons on the cuff. 2nd pattern were the same except the bottom corners of the pockets were angled (not square). 3rd pattern had triangular bottoms to the pockets and button cuffs. Personally, footpounder boots aren't available, then corcorans will do nicely. This sounds a very different approach to Vietnam, very interesting and refreshing. Will await developements. Can't find the book at the moment, fed up. Mike.

Yep, noticed you were in Kent and then noticed I hadn't put my location in. So thought I would. If yah wanna meet up sometime and have a chat, let me know and we can sort it out. If you haven't got it, get US Army Uniforms of the Vietnam War by Shelby Stanton. It's a must. Got loads of detail in there, probably the most comprehensive book.

There's the rub - any Troopers from Airborne backgrounds would have held on to their Corcorans, likewise any old sweats would have kept their broken in boots... So a mixture of Cocorans and Combat Boots

Yup, I have borrowed the Stanton book in the past and it will make it into my collection, been a bit preoccupied collecting other kit lately. Also, am definately looking for the Army Regs for dress, missed a '67 copy of AR 670-5 by a dollar fifty the other day... Anyone sees one, please let me know!

Just had a look at the Moore Militaria site (packages), and they are the First Pattern Utilities... A one stop shop! One concern I have is with the M56 Webbing - the trim on the Waterbottle pouches etc would be Canvas, not Nylon.

You mean the edging? Yeah I think mine are canvas anyways...
