Dear friends and fellow living historians. ... My first post to the forum and thank you for allowing me to participate and to Chris for setting it up. Thank you!
I wanted to make you all aware of an event called "A Walk in Their Boots", up and running now for it's 6th year in North East Tennessee. In 2016 we had a small group of Vietnam Era reenactors participating for the first time at this all era military timeline event. They were a welcome sight to the 30 plus Vietnam Veterans that attended our 1st annual formal Veteran Program in 16' as well. Lt. Larry Bowers, a platoon leader in Vietnam attended and gave a 15 minute presentation regarding his service leading troops in combat in Vietnam. Lt. Bowers is planning on attending again this year as well.
At this point I have about 20 combatants wanting to recreate not on a living history display of GI, NVA and VC. There is also scheduled reenactments of a battle. The event site not only features great terrain and excellent viewing areas for the public but also a Cave which will be featured as part of the Vietnam tactical demonstration.
The event takes place on the Tipton Haynes State Historic Site in Johnson City Tennessee, November 4th and 5th, 2017. There is also an Education Day on November 3rd for local middle, junior, senior and post high school students. The event web site is www.militarywalk.us and it is Free to participate and for the public to attend.
I have attached a map of the major designated areas of the event site.
If anyone would like to get involved, please either visit the web site or contact me via this thread. We would really like this event to be one of the premier Vietnam events in the coming years. There are a lot of Vietnam Veterans in this area of the country and they certainly deserve the honor and respect of our community. I believe this event to be a means to show them that we all care about them and their service
Thank you so very much.
