Hi all,
Just really an interest, that one day maybe i would like to put together. What was the typical "Kit" of a VC? I understand that they wore the "Black Pjamas". Just wondered if anyone made these? And what the other bits of equipment was that they used.

Shaun, there's a few sellers on eBay that carry VC Chest Rigs (AK and SKS - search CHICOM), Rucksacks and Waterbottles. You can also find the Neck Scarves and the Tyre Sandals. Basic kit could be a Chest rig with Water bottle. The same suppliers can probably sort out headgear as well.

Hi Oggy,
Cheers for the heads up buddy, i think it will do well at displays, Aussie kit and VC Kit, so can allow the public to see a uniform from either side.

Oh Yes, that'd work, throw in some WW2 Soviet SMGs, to scotch the rumour that it was all AKs...

A lot of the lasses do VC at the shows, how about putting a bona fide NVA kit together? Not seen anyone doing a proper job of that. People forget they were a full on army with a proper uniform...

Rolling Thunder have a large VC squad and amongst there members are a couple of collectors, one of them has over 200 original VC and NVA items, a lot of it was brought back from Vietnam by himself.
Regards

Sampan has a very good shipping time. I got my black PJs in less than a week from ordering them. I'd recommend them a lot. These are the said PJs sold by Sampan.

At a recent Vietnam War tactical, we had a mix of NVA/VC uniforms, but generally we used either the black uniform above, or a khaki/green NVA uniform. Most of us had authentic/reproduction uniforms from militaria vendors, either Sampan Imports, Moore Militaria, or from Vietnam vendors on eBay. What we learned after 3 days in the bush is that VC uniforms suck for operating in dense foliage! One fellow completely shredded the seat of his pants to the point that it looked like he was wearing chaps, and a few of us had issues with the elastic waist creeping down as we moved under the weight of the web gear. On the other hand, some of us had brought "emergency back-up" NVA-type pants and shirt (either khaki or green modern civilian clothes like Dickies tan shirts with J. Crew pants that could pass as period) to replace our clapped-out VC stuff. These replacements held up much better and were more practical because they had pockets for holding event registration cards and medical ID stuff. With the VC scarf and black VC boonie, the effect was startling - it looked very much like Viet Minh uniforms, NVA uniforms, and/or Russian advisor uniforms. Footwear consisted of either the PAVN boot, the Palladium boot, US jungle boots, plain brown leather hiking boots, and (in my case) Converse All-Star hi-tops with black soles and the canvas upper painted green. One fellow wearing the PAVN boot came down with issues with blisters and was out of the fight for the final day. My Converse provided zero arch support and I almost went out of the fight with sore feet as well, but we needed numbers so I stayed in the fight. As a group, we decided that modern boots would be the smart way to go for the next tactical, since you can't really see them with the pants untucked. For weapons, we used whatever was blank-adapted, but generally it worked out like this: - 2 AR-15s - 4 AK-47s - 1 M1 carbine - 1 K-98 - 1 MP-40 - 1 Norinco carbine Our webgear was a mix of Chi-Com, PAVN, WW2, and M-56. Here's a group shot on Saturday. If you're doing a living history event, the VC black pajamas make good display articles, but aren't very practical for field operations. Your better bet would be to go with a khaki NVA uniform made with sturdier materials and practical functionality (like pockets and belt loops!).
