Have just bought two of these with a mind to ripping the guts out and replacing with Motorolas (PMR446). However on cracking the cases open they look in GWO except for needing batteries. I would like to get them working so I can talk to the 2 squads on their Prick25s. Have found the plans for battery converters using a whole bunch of 9vs. However my problem lies in changing the crystals. If I get a matching pair of crystals, how do I go about aligning the sets? Wiki says the chart for the settings in the radios isn't accurate enough and I need an ID292 to set them up. Anyone worked on PRC6s before? is it too much hassle and should I just go ahead with Plan A?

I'd go ahead with Plan A & sell the guts for spares...

I'd stick with the (PMR446), then you can always 'net' with other users if necessary, would make them more useful.
and as Oggy says sell of the guts and recover some money.
Good Luck and catch you on the 'flip flop'.

Yup, that is looking like the most sensible option...BUT there is an ID292 on the Bay at the mo...Hmm, decisions decisions...

I've just acquired my second prc6 , the first has a battery converter that uses D cells Have yet to power them up but hope to build a second battery box and uses the prc6s to talk to my rt68 jeep radio
Seems a shame to remove innards of complete units can the pmr not just be wired into the speaker n mic ?
