The battle will be a generic representation of battles in early 1968 just prior to the
TET Communist Offensive. We will be using 2 different connected Battlefields complete with
wilderness patrol areas, and Forward Operating Base and a simulated Village.

From I-95 in North Carolina, take Exit 154 (NC 481). Head west on NC 481 for 2.8 miles.
(stop sign)Turn right, and head north on NC 4/48 for 3.0 miles. Event will be on right.

Arrival and Camping:

Arrival will begin anytime Friday after 2pm until 10pm, and again
Saturday morning after 7am and before 9am. Those needing to arrive
at other times please contact coordinator and we will try to accommodate you.
If you plan to arrive before 2pm Saturday please contact coordinator for
camp directions.

Please bring plenty of water NO onsite water supply !

No Live ammo allowed at event.

There will be a night battle on Friday night from 8pm to 12:30pm. No shooting
or other loud noises after 12:30pm due to laws/permission from county.
The Battle will begin promptly at 9:00am on Saturday and end around 5pm.

AAR from the 199th Light Infantry Brigade,

Friday – I arrived early enough to set up my M1950 tent in the bivouac site and begin my PCC’s and PCI’s. The 101ST ABN LRRP Team arrived shortly there after and set up their GP small and also began their prep for combat operations. Later I did a terrain walk to acquaint myself with the AO and the FSB, as our Intel had a sizeable VC and NVA force moving into the area to start their Communist propaganda and try to force the locals to take action against all allied forces. At around 1800 I linked up with the rest of the detachment from the 199TH Light Infantry Brigade. We conducted our PCC’s and PCI’s and then moved to occupy the FSB as directed by higher. Our Command was provided by the 4TH ID. Our mission was to hold a newly constructed Fire Support Base to support future operations in the AO. We were joined by an Advanced Detachment of the 307TH EN (ABN), 82ND ABN and the US Navy Seabee Detachment. We continued to make improvements on the FSB as night fell. The 101ST ABN LRRP Team moved out after dark to conduct a Reconnaissance-in-force to probe the enemy's disposition in hopes to initiate a strong reaction by the enemy that would reveal his numbers, deployment, and other tactical data. Additionally they would provide early warning for the FSB and serve as a QRF should enemy forces try and seize the base. Around 2100 we started receiving small arms fire around the FSB from enemy forces. The 101ST ABN LRRP Team engaged a sizeable VC force just a few 100 meters east of the FSB who were attempting to penetrate our defenses. They captured a few of the VC and KIA’d the rest. Intel gathered from the EPW’s revealed VC forces was in fact operating in the AO and the NVA would be reinforcing them by morning. The FSB continued to be probed and harassed till around 2300. Then all enemy contact dropped off to nothing. Decisions were made to drop security to 25% and implement rest plans.

Saturday – Early on in the morning the 101ST ABN LRRP Team moved off to continue with their Reconnaissance mission in the AO. Our 199TH LIB Detachment once again occupied the FSB with the mission of defense. The remainder of the 307TH EN (ABN), 82ND ABN had moved in earlier and made significant improvements to the FSB with camo nets and the additional fire power of a Browning M2 50 caliber Machine gun. Almost immediately the 101ST ABN LRRP Team received contact from the VC and NVA forces. Which they were able to neutralize. With the FSB secure by the 307th Engineers and US Navy Seabee’s. The 199th conducted presence patrols around the local area within sight of the FSB. All through the day Charlie was out in Force. And we engaged him like wise. Around noon we moved back to the FSB and immediately we could tell Charlie wanted us out of the AO. He mounted several frontal attacks on the FSB gaining access several times but could not hold the FSB for any length of time. After which the enemy tried a few distractions to try and gain access but we where on top of our game and the rouse’s failed. At that point contact seemed fade away. Later in the afternoon. The LRRP Team while moving back to the FSB engaged and destroyed a sizeable enemy force just outside the wire. The LRRP team moved back in the FSB to consolidate and reorganize. The Communists forces tried again to take the FSB by force. Wave after wave of Main Force VC supported by veteran NVA soldiers continued to assault the FSB. With the combined forces of the 4TH ID, 199TH LIB, 101ST ABN LRRP’s, 307TH EN BN (ABN), 82ND ABN and the US Navy Seabee’s. The back of the Communist Forces was finally broken. As they had used up all their resources trying to dislodge us from this AO. All is quit in the AO as of now. But, I am sure that Charlie will be back. The survivors have slipped back across the border into Cambodia. And Hanoi continues sending more troops and supplies down the Ho Chi Min Trail.

Here are my sustains and improves for the event.

Sustains:
1. Location is awesome.
2. Fire Support Base with flags was a nice touch.
3. Always an enemy presence, VC/NVA you guys continue to grow and learn your numbers were very impressive.

Improves:
1. Leaders Meeting before operations begin to establish Chain of Command, issue operations order or establish solid timeline for event. Or basically a meet and greet.
2. Commo between units.
3. 1/50,000 scale map of AO with MGRS and maybe add a few Call for Fire Missions.

The event was outstanding I think all US and Communist Forces had a great time. I personally had a great experience this past weekend. I sincerely hope the event will continue to grow and expand. I cannot wait until next year. Thank you so much Donnie and to all who attended.

Our unit AAR got circulated amongst the participants. Suffice it to say, if you reenact Vietnam and don't come to Enfield, you are missing out. Great event, great people, great time. Don't miss out on the next one.
